One thing that you want to be aware of before buying a home is the stability of the school district. This is especially true if you are looking into the Herndon, Chantilly, Reston, and Oakton areas, as there are currently plans to redistrict the zoning effecting South Lakes, Chantilly, Westfields, and Oakton High Schools. The school you think your kids will be going to may not be the one they end up in, so be informed of the facts concerning redistricting before you buy!!

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt the staff recommendation of the west county boundary study at its business meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2008.  The new boundaries will relieve crowding at Chantilly and Westfield High Schools, balance enrollments at South Lakes High School, and eliminate the Madison High School attendance island. 

The boundary changes do not affect students currently enrolled in the affected schools; they will become effective in the 2008-09 school year and will be phased in, beginning with freshmen, during the next four school years.
